🇬🇧 New Format – Practical Workshop: Tripod and Camera Setup
Another practical step in our development at the University of Westminster.
As part of our practical training, we recently took part in a workshop focused on setting up professional tripods and preparing cameras for production work.
During the session, we practised how to correctly assemble and position a tripod, adjust its height and stability, operate the tripod head, prepare the camera position, and make sure the whole setup is safe and ready for filming.
These may seem like basic production skills, but they are absolutely essential in professional film and television work. A properly prepared tripod and camera setup can have a major impact on the stability of the image, framing, camera movement and the overall quality of a production.
For us, this workshop is also directly connected with our future practical experience and placements. We want to build confidence not only in front of the camera, but also behind it — understanding the equipment, preparing a shooting environment and working efficiently as part of a production team.
This kind of hands-on training gives us an opportunity to develop skills that can later be used in:
film and television production,
interviews and documentary work,
studio filming,
livestreaming,
podcast video production,
event coverage,
social media content,
and future New Format productions.
The next stage will be to continue developing our camera operating skills, framing, movement, lighting and full production workflow.
Every workshop brings us one step closer to working confidently in a real production environment.
